Roots
In the spring of 2009, two gents by the names of Asher Awelan and Ross Henry Thompson sat in a pub in Sowerby Bridge listening to Kirk McElhinney and Jason Singh of The Safires entertain a packed crowd with their sensational music. A few drinks later and some crazy ideas were flowing about inviting these minstrels to North Wales and putting on a roof party in Colwyn Bay.
They invited a bunch of like minded friends from different communities around North Wales, Halifax and Manchester. Before long their rooftop party was awash with food, drink and dancing feet. Old acquaintances reunited, good friendships enjoyed, new friends, communities collided. It was a blast.
Fruits
In the glowing aftermath of that night, many a conversation took place all going around the same sort of questions - What made it so special? Could it be done again? What was its essence? It boiled down to these things... it was all about community, linked friendships, trusting the idea that when two people who like eachother bring together other people they like, it works a treat. And new connections are made, laughs are had, food and drink are enjoyed and, well, sometimes new festivals are born.
So that was the beginning of what shall now be called Ymuno Festival. In Welsh, ymuno essentially means to join in, be a part of. So, come and join in, be part of it. We've set a date, sorted out a venue, booked some decent bands, arranged an amazing Tipi - and we're inviting all our friends again, and asking them to invite theirs... let's have a great time, connect with friends new and old, collide our communities - make something special happen...
